A Book for Every Day

Daily writing prompt
What book could you read over and over again?

An epic novel takes time to absorb, so reading it over and over again, irrespective of its literary prowess, linguistics, and message, could end up feeling like a chore. There are a few novels I’ve read multiple times, A Prayer for Owen Meany among them, but it was over a period of years, decades in fact. But “over and over again” suggests a companion novel, something that remains with you to help center your equilibrium when necessary or share with a loved one or child. If that’s the case, then only one book comes to mind: The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein. It’s a gem that’s comparable to ice cream; I could eat it every day.

This was a terrible short blog, but I have a good excuse: the Phillies are on the West Coast, and I was up to 1:00 a.m. watching them get shutout 6-0. So I’m not my usual sunshiny self. 😒

  1. Short but awesome! Here’s hoping for a better baseball outcome tonight.

    1. I see your Yankees are off to a good start. They look like a more complete team than last year. It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re still playing in late October.

      1. This is our year! Well I say that every year. We just need to ditch Boone. He starts off great but by mid season is a lump.
