It’s said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. If that indeed is the case, that repetition and expectations as they pertain to results equals insanity, then I am insane. It’s no longer debatable. For example, for sixteen consecutive years, I’ve tried explaining to Rocky the primary benefit of turning back the clocks in autumn. “Rocky,” I cry with a gush of enthusiasm, “we get to sleep an extra hour tomorrow!” Next, I begin categorically walking Rocky through all the net benefits of the autumnal time change, repeatedly hammering home the “extra hour” scenario. The result? It doesn’t matter how vigorously I try or how large a hammer I swing, “home” remains an elusive destination.
