Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner…

Daily writing prompt
If you could host a dinner and anyone you invite was sure to come, who would you invite?

The following is assuming I can time-travel:

So that no young boy would ever have to utter the despairing words, “Say it ain’t so, Joe,” I would warn my dinner guest, “Don’t do it, Joe!”

Can you guess my guest?

  1. My first choice, I would say Jesus Christ but he made statements that make me pause at this question. First, he said for whatever you do to the least of humanity (paraphrased), we have have done to him. Second, that when we entertain a stranger, unknowingly, it could be an angel. Therefore, the one I would like to invite to dinner is also the one I despair having dinner with. We go through life focused on ourselves and overlooking those around us that may need help. In our defense and as a condemnation to our society, we are overwhelmed by panhandlers, grifters, and frauds looking for a free ride and not just a free meal. In the old days, or at least from what I was told about the southern farmlands of Arkansas, when families left home for a day or more, they would leave a cooked meal in the warmer of their stoves in case a traveler stopped by for a night of hospitality and a meal. Doors were not locked. We have become a society afraid of being taken advantage of and our possessions stolen.

My second choice would have to be Trump, Elon Musk, Netanyahu, Putin, Zelensky, Chinese leader Xi Jinping, and the other supposed world leaders. Reasoning? To ask them the pointed question of WHY are they such hypocrites and deceivers. Every nation commits atrocities. Every person commits an atrocity. It all matters on your definition of atrocity. Letting someone go without a meal could be and atrocity. Meaning, if you see someone that looks hungry or asks for food, but you pass them by without helping, could be an atrocity until you look at when the last time they ate. What if they just ate and had never missed a meal? Is it an atrocity to refuse a person a meal if they ask for it? Is it an atrocity to refuse to help someone that asks for financial help buying tires for their car even if you know they may not have the financial responsibility that we think they should have and did not manage their affairs better. That should do for my crazy rant for today, LOL.

My wife says she would like to invite Marilyn Monroe, Churchill, or Kathryn Hepburn, in that order. Marilyn is her hero.

    1. I have many passions but none more than baseball. “Say it ain’t so Joe,” refers to Shoeless Joe Jackson and the Black Sox scandal. Supposedly, a young boy uttered those words to Joe Jackson on the courthouse steps. It’s a myth but the symbolism is powerful: heroes need to protect the youths who idolize them. If I had one wish it would be to warn Joe Jackson of the everlasting disgrace he brought upon himself.
