Less is More

Daily writing prompt
If you could have something named after you, what would it be?

Mmm, what would I want carrying my name? The first thing that comes to mind is some sort of structure. But definitely not a tunnel; in the event of an accident, I wouldn’t want people stuck inside me. It would be somewhat ironic if I had to call my wife and tell her, “Honey, I’ll be late for dinner because I’m stuck inside myself. I guess I would feel the same way about a main access highway, a road where commuters are always backed up; I would hate that every time my name got mentioned, it would sound like someone complaining about a bowel obstruction.

What about a baseball stadium? Yeah, but what if the team is lousy and the stands are empty? I’ll be known as a place no one goes to unless they get free tickets.

Maybe I should think on a smaller scale. Having a massive structure carrying my name is too self-aggrandizing. Perhaps a modest neighborhood playground, a place where children can collect fond memories, would do the trick. I like it! And when you really think about it, it’s not so small an idea.
