Kathryn: “Rocky, Daddy forgot to take the trash to the curb this morning, and we missed the collection. Now the garage is gonna stink all week. Bad Daddy!”
Michael: “Rocky, Mom forgot to pick up the dry cleaning, and now Daddy has to pull a pair of pants from the dirty clothes. Mom has really fallen down on the job.”
Kathryn: “Rocky, tell Daddy if he doesn’t clean the leaves out of the gutter, we’ll get water in the basement next time it pours rains.”
Michael: “Rocky, tell Mom to make sure she lays out her clothes tonight, so that tomorrow, for once in our lives, we can be on time.”
Indeed, there is nothing more amusing than a couple that has mastered the craft of talking to each other through their loyal canine. Wit, irony, passive aggression, the confronting of mistakes and absentmindedness, and not-so-friendly reminders, all get channeled through Rocky. How unfortunate that Rocky will never come to understand the vital role he has played in a marriage. However, I assure you that he is well compensated for his services.
